About the Business

Ball & Gatehouse Opticians is an independent, family run practice located in Bebington, Wirral. We strive to provide the most thorough eye examinations using the latest technology and equipment so you, the patient, have full confidence in our findings and recommended management.

Previously PM & DJ Ball Opticians, the current owners Oliver and Nicola Gatehouse aim to provide professional eye care tailored to suit your visual needs. With over 35 years of experience between them they, and the established team, can offer expert knowledge on contact lenses, the latest spectacle lens technology and advise on current frame styles. Why not book an appointment today to see them?

We are open 6 days a week, Monday-Saturday and offer sight tests on all of these days!

Our eye examinations usually last about 40 minutes but we will advise you if you require any extra specific tests and how long these may take.

We have a general routine we perform for every patient, but as we like to treat every patient as an individual the optician will tailor the examination similarly, which guarantees you a thorough examination executed smoothly, keeping you as relaxed as possible.

As well as including all tests to check for your sight and to see if any vision correction is required (e.g. spectacles or contact lenses) we also check for any potential eye disease like Glaucoma, Cataract, Macular degeneration to name a few.

Our equipment includes a digital retinal camera which allows us to take photographs of the inside of your eyes so even small abnormalities can be detected, recorded and compared in future checks. Combining this with modern examination techniques we can ensure all is done to help prevent unnecessary deterioration to your sight and eye health. Other tests we will carry out include binocular assessment (how well the eyes work together), peripheral visual field analysis and intraocular pressure measurement.

The optometrist will always explain the results of the various assessments and you will be given every opportunity to ask any questions you may have. The recommendations given at the end of the eye examination by the optician will take into account factors such as your working environment, lifestyle and any leisure pursuits you have, so we can meet your visual needs in the best possible way.

Business Services

Optomap Optomap

Optomap

From £20

** We're the only Wirral based practice to be offering this service so you won't get this anywhere else! **

The Optomap takes a detailed image of the inside of your eye, mapping a representation of up to 80% of the inside of your eye. The image can be easily stored, referred to, and compared for future use. This is a fantastic tool that helps us to give you exceptional eye care, simply because we are able to refer to past Optomap images and monitor your eyes’ development.

The procedure is very quick and non-invasive. We don’t need to dilate your pupils either, so there is no need to worry about eye drops or sore eyes. With a push of a button, the machine generates a detailed image of your retina so that our experienced optometrist can analyse your health and vision strength. It helps us to spot anything that a standard eye examination may have missed.

We will be able to detect the early signs of eye conditions such as retinal tears and detachments, macular degeneration and glaucoma, and non-eye diseases such as heart disease and diabetes.

Contact Lenses

Contact Lenses

From Various prices depending on lens choice - please contact the branch for more info.

There are hundreds of contact lenses on the market and the choice of what to go for can seem daunting but we will carry out a full assessment and consultation with the patient. We will discuss the various types and establish what the best option is for the individual’s lifestyle requirements.

Contact lenses don’t have to be worn full time and are a great alternative to glasses for sports, social occasions and holidays.

We have a great track record in fitting previously unsuccessful wearers of contact lenses. Peter, the previous owner and one of our current Optometrists, has worked for Arrowe Park Hospital as a specialist contact lens fitter so you know you're in safe hands coming to Ball & Gatehouse for your contact lenses!
